In the recent home series against New Zealand, India’s batting lineup struggled to find stability. The Indian batting unit collapsed on many occasions during this series raising many questions regarding their technique and form, especially the senior batters including Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. While younger talents like Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, and Sarfaraz Khan each had flashes of brilliance, the overall performance fell short of expectations, leading to a 3-0 series loss. Though Kapil didn’t take anyone’s name in particular, he offered valuable advice, stressing that when a player is struggling, the best way to get back on track is to return to the basics and put in more practice. In a conversation with CricketNext, Kapil Dev said: “Go back to the basics. Practice and practice and practice. If you say I will improve by sitting in the room, then it is not going to happen. If you are going through a rough time, just practice more. The more you practice, the better it will be for you." Kapil, who is considered the face of golf in Delhi-NCR, shared his thoughts on transitioning from cricket to golf. He mentioned that he thoroughly enjoyed every moment of playing golf and mused that if he had taken up the sport earlier in his career, he could have easily added another 1000-2000 runs to his cricket tally. He further said: “I think concentration mein improvement aati hai (by playing golf). If I tell you something, had I played golf while playing cricket, I would have scored at least 1000-2000 runs. Because in golf the focus is for one second when you hit the ball, and it’s the same in cricket too. It complements each other."
