Former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson will miss the second Test match against India, scheduled to be played from October 24 in Pune. New Zealand dominated the home team in the first Test at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, securing a 1-0 lead in the series. Despite their strong start, the Black Caps were missing a crucial player, Kane Williamson. The experienced batter had sustained a groin strain during New Zealand’s tour of Sri Lanka last month, preventing him from traveling to India for the series. Will Young stepped in for the star batter and performed reasonably well, scoring 33 and an unbeaten 48 in the two innings. New Zealand cruised to an eight-wicket victory, marking their first Test win on Indian soil in 36 years. Head coach Gary Stead shared an update on the veteran’s recovery. Gary Stead said: “We’re monitoring Kane and he’s tracking in the right direction, but isn’t yet 100% fit. We’re hopeful to see further improvement over the coming days and have him available for the third Test.” The head coach mentioned that Williamson is progressing well in his recovery but they don't want to rush him at this moment and want him to recover well. Gary Stead further said: “We’ll give him as much time as possible to get himself ready, but certainly continue to take a cautious approach.” New Zealand stands on the brink of making history by potentially becoming the first team in 12 years to defeat India on home soil. The last team to accomplish this was England in 2012, under the inspiring captaincy of Alastair Cook.
