Former New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson has called Virat Kohli the “greatest all-format player” of the last decade and a half. Speaking on Sky Sports during the Lord’s Test in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, Williamson lauded Kohli for navigating immense expectations in a cricket-crazed nation and emerging with unparalleled consistency. Williamson said, “Virat is probably the greatest all-format player we have seen for probably in the last 15 years, you know, and [he] has his own challenges. In an absolutely cricket-obsessed country and he has been at the top of that tree.” Williamson and Kohli are two of the four cricketers—alongside Joe Root and Steve Smith—long referred to as the 'Fab Four' for their dominance across formats. With Kohli stepping away from Tests and T20Is, and others adapting their schedules, the quartet’s golden phase is nearing its close. Despite competitive rivalries, Williamson insisted camaraderie always outweighed ego. He added, “There are great sorts of relationships and friendships with all of them in slightly different ways. And we’ve stayed in touch in a lot of ways as wel. There’s been no that sort of competitive thing. I think you are just in teams and willing to compete for those teams.” Read also: Bumrah Reveals Jofra Archer’s Support During Injury Phase Shared Lives Beyond the Boundary, Says Williamson When reminded of a recent meeting between him and Kohli—both accompanied by their children—Williamson smiled and offered a rare glimpse into their off-field bond. He said, “Yeah, we did! It was quite funny, just a full circle. Not just played cricket but lived our lives in some sort of parallel way... whether that’s having kids at similar times or experiencing different things as you get older. So you do connect on different levels.” Williamson is currently playing for Middlesex, based at Lord’s, while Kohli is believed to be residing in London. Though no official engagement with the county has been confirmed, the mutual respect between two icons continues undiminished.
