Jos Buttler hesitated for a moment before adjusting his bat height and executing a well-timed hook shot. Mumbai Indians' new recruit, Satyanarayana Raju, delivered one of the slowest balls of the Indian Premier League during their IPL 2025 clash against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The 25-year-old fast bowler from Andhra Pradesh caught Buttler off guard with a back-of-the-hand variation in the 13th over of Gujarat’s innings. Fans on social media were quick to draw comparisons between Raju’s deceptive slower ball and the variations once mastered by West Indies legend Dwayne Bravo, who often relied on such deliveries to outfox batters. Despite the expensive start, the team management retained faith in him, giving him another opportunity against Gujarat Titans. Before the match, he was spotted in conversation with Rohit Sharma, who appeared to be offering words of encouragement. In the game against Gujarat, Raju initially leaked 13 runs in his first over. He was later reintroduced in the death overs but struggled to contain Rutherford, who dispatched his slower deliveries into the stands. However, Raju redeemed himself in the final over, picking up Rashid Khan’s wicket after being hit for a six. He ended his spell with figures of 1 for 40 in three overs, conceding only 10 runs in the last over. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians made a notable change to their playing XI, dropping Vignesh Puthur despite his impressive three-wicket haul on debut against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk. Reports suggest that the Kerala leg-spinner missed the match due to an injury. Coming to bat earlier, the Gujarat Titans posted 196 runs on the board, thanks to Sai Sudarshan’s 63 runs off 41 balls. Captain Shubman Gill added 38 runs while Buttler himself scored 39 before Mujeeb-ur-Rahman dismissed him. Coming to chase, none of the Mumbai openers could score big. Then Tilak Verma came who scored 39 runs. Suryakumar Yadav, who recently got a blow on his helmet off Prasidh Krishna, is still fighting, alongside captain Hardik Pandya
