Jon Lewis has resigned as UP Warriorz head coach prior to the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026 season, bringing his three-year association with the team to an end. The development was confirmed by the Warriorz through a social media update on Friday, June 27. "From day one, you believed in us. Through the highs, the learnings, and everything in between. Thank you, Coach Jon Lewis, for leading with heart, calm, and belief. You’ll always be a part of the Warriorz Family," the UP Warriorz Instagram post read. Watch here: View this post on Instagram A post shared by UP Warriorz (@upwarriorz) Lewis signed for the UP Warriorz in the inaugural season of the WPL in 2023 and took the team to the playoffs in their inaugural season. They were, however, beaten by eventual runners Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator. In the 2024 and 2025 seasons, the UP side finished fourth in 2024 with three victories in eight matches and were at the bottom of the table in 2025 with the same win-loss ratio. Significantly, captain Alyssa Healy sat out the season in 2025 due to injury, and stand-in skipper was named Deepti Sharma. Lewis was also splitting duties as head coach of the England Women's national side, a role he assumed in November 2022. Following England's disappointing 16-0 defeat to Australia in the Women's Ashes and group-stage elimination in the 2024 T20 World Cup, Lewis stepped down at the England role in March 2025. Simultaneously, during his stint, UP Warriorz achieved the WPL record for the highest team score (225/5 v Royal Challengers Bengaluru) this year so far, courtesy of Georgia Voll's unbeaten 99. Lewis's departure will mean the team seeking a new coach ahead of WPL 2026.
