Jamaica Scorpions captain John Campbell has been suspended for four matches for failing to appear for the toss during the Super50 final against Barbados Pride. The match, which was cut short by rain, was to be played over 20 overs each way, but neither Campbell nor Barbados captain Raymon Reifer arrived to present themselves for the toss. The final was thus forfeited, and no trophy was awarded for the 2024-25 season. Campbell has issued an apology over the incident through a statement from Cricket West Indies (CWI). Campbell said: "I sincerely regret any disruption caused during the final and acknowledge that my actions may have been perceived as resistance to the match officials' decision. It was never my intention to undermine their authority or bring the game into disrepute. I fully acknowledge the importance of maintaining the integrity of the game and the need for adherence to the rules and decisions of the officials." Reifer is still under review as he has not responded to charges given by match referee Reon King. In light of his admission and demonstrated remorse, CWI has applied the minimum sanction of a four-match ban for a Level 3 Offence, as a matter of leniency." He added: "This decision reinforces the critical role of captains in upholding the values of sportsmanship and respect for the game's integrity. We trust that John will use this experience to continue contributing positively to West Indies cricket and serve as a role model moving forward." The board has announced that it will not dispense match fees for the final. The prize money, too, for the winning and runner-up teams would not be given.
