Before Sri Lanka toured England, former England cricketer Michael Vaughan said that Joe Root could overtake Sachin Tendulkar's Test run tally. Joe Root scored his 49th international century on August 29 during the second Test against Sri Lanka. Root’s 143-run pushed his Test century count to 33, proving he remains a formidable force. With this, Joe Root has 49 centuries in all formats, making him the second-highest among current players. He has now surpassed India captain Rohit Sharma, who has 48 tons. While it took Sharma 509 innings to get there, Root reached there in 454 innings. However, he is far behind Virat Kohli, who, with 80 tons in 591 innings. Sachin Tendulkar has scored the highest number of centuries in all formats i.e 100. Joe Root has scored 12,274 runs in Test cricket. Vaughan thinks he will need another 3,647 runs to pip Sachin Tendulkar's record. Also Read | Virat Kohli vs Rohit Sharma – Who Reigns Supreme | Head-to-Head Stats
