Joe Root has reclaimed the No.1 spot in the ICC Test batting rankings, becoming the oldest player in over a decade to do so. His leap came after a commanding performance at Lord’s during the third Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, where England sealed a 2-1 series lead. Root struck a sublime 122 in the first innings and followed it up with a solid 40 in the second. The 34-year-old now leads the rankings with 888 points, ahead of New Zealand’s Kane Williamson (867) and teammate Harry Brook (862). Brook had just climbed to No.1 a week ago but slipped after scoring 11 and 23 at Lord’s. Root is now the oldest top-ranked Test batter since Kumar Sangakkara held the spot in 2014.
