Jasprit Bumrah has picked up just one wicket yet in India vs England fourth Test at Old Trafford and that too came in the final session of the third day, and social media is eagerly awaiting to pounce on him. Most of the time, all the criticism he receives is undeserved. But this time, possibly some of it may be true. Bumrah has seemed exhausted and out of his normal tempo in Manchester. The break between the third and fourth Test was just three days, and it appears the absence of recovery time has affected him negatively. Where Has Bumrah's Speed and Accuracy Gone? Usually, Bumrah takes only an over or two to find his groove and get things in order. But in this game at Old Trafford, he has been less than his best. He's released pads balls, bowled shorter than usual, and lacked his normal control on line and length. That's not what you expect from him. Michael Vaughan, England's former captain, also mentioned this on commentary for BBC. According to him: "I have to say Jasprit Bumrah has looked okay and playable today. He hasn't got that oomph that he got out of the surface at Lord's when he bowled that incredible spell, and it's the pace that Bumrah is not able to generate, unlike Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer." Numbers attest to that. In Manchester, Bumrah has not bowled a ball above 140 kmph. For a bowler who typically works between 138 and 142 kmph, that is out of the ordinary. And that's not a one-off. His pace has been declining throughout this series. At this rate he is not going to play 5th Test match pic.twitter.com/bcfvOJ9ni9 — onlyy rndom thngss (@OnlyyRndom) July 25, 2025 Also Read | Joe Root Surpasses Ponting, Becomes Second-Highest Test Run Scorer Is Bumrah Fully Fit for Test Cricket? This is not the first time Bumrah has appeared flat in this series. At Headingley, in the second innings, he barely made an impact on a dead pitch. At Lord's, he was quicker, but then he bowled fewer overs, only 16. Here in Manchester, he's struggled even though it is just the first innings. At one stage, he even withdrew from the field after bowling just one over with the second new ball on Day 3, only to come back a few overs later. It's already anticipated that he'll feature in just three Tests in this series, and now there's a possibility that he may not bowl in the second innings here. It should be kept in mind that Bumrah hurt his back in January. He played in IPL 2025, but that was only of four overs a time. That's a different form of cricket altogether, and his body might not be geared up for that as yet. That could have been the reason he had vowed prior to the series that he wouldn't play the entire series. Fast bowlers like him would have to space out their workload so as to prevent another injury. If India would have won the previous Test, Bumrah would have taken rest for the fourth Test. However, things went the other way round which showed adverse effect on the accuracy and pace of the ace Indian pacer.
