The Indian star pacer Jaspreet Bumrah is likely to miss a few matches in the first leg of the 2025 Indian Premier League. Bumrah, who is representing the Mumbai Indians, is recovering from a back strain he succumbed to during the Border Gavaskar Trophy. And according to a report from ESPNCrinfo, Bumrah will join the Mumbai Indian squad around April after BCCI. The tournament will start on March 22, with Mumbai having three games in March. Currently, Jasprit Bumrah is training at BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru and is awaiting a clearance certificate to join the MI squad. Jasprit Bumrah suffered from a stress-related injury at his lower back that had forced him to walk away in the middle of the last Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Not only that, he was in the provisional squad for the 2025 Champions Trophy, but ultimately missed as he failed to be fit fully. While announcing the CT squad, BCCI Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar had informed that it might take around five weeks from the Sydney Test for him recover. However, after undergoing further scans in February, and still having that discomfort, he got sidelined. The Hardik Pandya-led MI is likely to miss Bumrah in all three. However, the exact time for his return is not certain. Earlier, MI's former bowling coach Shane Bond had warned that another injury on the same spot might be a lifelong ban for Jasprit's career in cricket. He mentioned the rapid transision of formats in the game. And that Bumrah play all three, it might be hazardous for him. Bumrah's unique action too adds to the trouble, forcing him to suffer from multiple back issues. However, BCCI has decided to monitor his workload closely to keep him safe from further injuries. Notably, after the IPL ends, India will tour England for the five-match Test series scheduled in June.
