India's ace fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will not be available for the second Test against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on July 2, 2025. Bumrah, who picked 5 wickets in the first innings of the first Test at Leeds, has been rested due to workload management. India had already scheduled that Bumrah will feature in only three out of five Tests in this series. Bumrah's Absence a Big Blow for India Bumrah was India's best bowler during the first Test. He returned with figures of 5/140 in 43.4 overs. The rest of the Indian bowlers did not do well. Prasidh Krishna conceded too many runs, conceding 5 wickets for 220 runs overall, while Mohammed Siraj picked up only 2 wickets in the first innings and none in the second. Their combined figures were abysmal: 9 wickets for 482 runs in 92 overs. Arshdeep is India's leading wicket-taker in T20Is with 99 wickets in 63 matches, but has not featured in a Test yet. There are Akash Deep and medium paceman Nitish Kumar Reddy as other options. Shardul Thakur could also be dropped to accommodate Reddy, who can bat more decently. Experts Disagree on Resting Bumrah Veteran coach Ravi Shastri cautioned that keeping Bumrah out might lose the series for India."If he (Bumrah) was looking at a rest, you may have to think twice. If you don't have him and then go 2-0 down, it could be an uphill task." he told Sky Sports. Even Sunil Gavaskar wished Bumrah to play in all five Tests, but present coach Gautam Gambhir stated they want to keep Bumrah fit and fresh. However, when asked Gautam Gambhir, the Indian Head Coach, about Bumrah's presence in all five Tests, he said: "I think for us, managing his workload is more important because there's a lot of cricket going forward, and we know what he brings to the table as well. So, before he came to the tour, it was already decided that he was going to play three Test matches. But let's see how his body turns out."
