According to reports, the selection committee has decided to rest India's star bowler Jasprit Bumrah for the white-ball home series against England. The other two key players, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, are also likely to get rest for the series. The England series will start late January 2025, with India hosting the country for five T20 matches and three ODIs. The first T20 will be played on 22nd January, while the first ODI has been scheduled on February 6. Jasprit Bumrah workload management Jasprit Bumrah has been spearheading India’s pace attack during the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. With Mohammed Shami sidelined due to injury, Bumrah has taken charge of a relatively inexperienced fast-bowling unit. Across the four Tests in the series, he has delivered 141.2 overs, the most by any bowler from either team so far. Even the captain, Rohit Sharma, agreed with the fact that Bumrah has been overused in the series. In the post-match press conference, he said There is to be honest (risk of overbowling Bumrah). He has bowled a lot of overs there's no doubt about it. But again, every Test match we play, we keep that in mind, the workloads of all the bowlers in fact. But again, if somebody is in such great form, you want to try and maximise that form how-much-ever you can and that is what we've been trying to do with Bumrah. Heading into the New Year’s Test in Sydney, Bumrah’s role remains pivotal to India’s campaign. He is expected to shoulder a significant portion of the bowling workload in the series finale. By the conclusion of the Sydney Test, Bumrah will have featured in 10 Tests over just four months, underscoring his relentless commitment to the team.
