Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah regains the top ranking of the Test bowlers as shown by the latest ICC Test Rankings released on Wednesday. Bumrah has overtaken teammate Ravichandran Ashwin to earn a position that he hasn't held since more than a couple of weeks. This comes after his six wickets in India's seven-wicket win over Bangladesh over the weekend in Kanpur, where he picked up three wickets in each innings. Meanwhile, young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal moved to third place in the Test batter rankings. Ravichandran Ashwin is just a point behind Jasprit Bumrah, who has a rating of 870, in the Test bowling rankings. Bangladesh received improvement from Mehidy Hasan, who moved four places up to 18th position, and Shakib Al Hasan, who jumped five places to 28th. Sri Lanka spinner Prabath Jayasuriya reached a career-high ranking, rising a notch to equal seventh after taking 18 wickets against New Zealand. Much of the trends of this week, however, point towards the clean sweep given by India to Bangladesh. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was named Player of the Match for the Bangladesh Test, which got tampered with by the rain. Scores of 72 and 51 propelled him two places up to third in the Test batter rankings. Only Joe Root and Kane Williamson are ranked higher. Virat Kohli, too, climbed six places to reach the sixth position after some solid contributions with scores of 47 and 29*.
