Team India will kick off their 2025–27 World Test Championship campaign with a tough Test series in England, starting June 20, 2025. The five-match series will feature the team ushering in a new chapter under the new captaincy of Shubman Gill. Star wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant has been made vice-captain. The team for the England series also includes two new faces left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh and and Sai Sudharsan. Arshdeep and Sudharsan have impressed in the domestic league and in the recently held IPL 2025. Meanwhile, as the senior team readies itself for the first Test, the India A team is busy playing the last match of a two-match unofficial Test series against the England Lions. While India’s new leadership grabs the spotlight, all eyes will also be on Jasprit Bumrah, who is close to achieving a rare milestone on the tour. The top fast bowler from India in conditions away from home, Bumrah needs just one wicket to equal the great Wasim Akram's record of most Test wickets by an Asian bowler in SENA nations. More importantly, he needs only five wickets to be the first Asian bowler to have achieved 150 Test wickets. Managing Jasprit Bumrah’s Workload Is a Top Priority It should be noted that the fast bowler had a back injury during India's last Test in Australia earlier this year. Although he was the best-performing player in that series, in which India lost 2-1, Bumrah's workload is currently being watched carefully. Another thing here to note is that head coach Gautam Gambhir stated that Bumrah is expected to play in just three of the five Tests in England.
