In a major update before the second Test, Ryan ten Doeschate has confirmed that Jasprit Bumrah will feature for the game. The second Test of the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series will start on July 2 at Edgbaston in Birmingham. During a press conference on Monday, Ryan ten Doeschate said: “Bumrah is available for the game. We knew from the start he would play only 3 out of the 5 Tests. He’s had 8 days to recover from the last match, but considering the conditions and his workload, we haven’t made a final decision yet. We also need to assess the other players’ workloads. So technically, yes, he is available, but we haven’t decided if he will play." There were initial reports that Bumrah could be rested for the second Test to regulate his workload. It was anticipated that he would be back for the third Test. Given that India are playing five Tests in quick succession, regulating player workload, particularly of bowlers like Bumrah, is of paramount importance. Bumrah was India's top bowler during the first Test at Headingley, where he achieved five wickets during the first innings, assisting India in gaining a slender six-run lead. He did not receive any wickets during the second innings, and England overpowered a huge score of 371 runs, winning the game by five wickets. It was always part of the plan that Bumrah would play four out of the five Tests, as confirmed by India’s captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir. They had earlier said that they would decide later which four matches Bumrah would feature in. A report on Thursday even suggested that Bumrah could be rested for the Edgbaston Test, but now that doesn't seem to be the case. Prasidh Krishna, Shardul Thakur, and Mohammed Siraj didn't do much and conceded too many easy runs. Their inconsistency cost India dearly and helped England win the match. With Bumrah now available for the Test in Birmingham, India will be expecting an improved performance in the second Test as they aim to draw level in the series and win their maiden game at this venue.
