Former Australian fast bowler Jason Gillespie has raised concerns about India’s advantage in the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025. He pointed out that India is playing all its matches at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, allowing them to get familiar with the conditions. Prior to the Champions Trophy venue scheduling, India had raised concerns regarding security in Pakistan. As a result, the ICC had granted India's plea for the hybrid model, letting only India play in Dubai. India has been dominant so far, securing back-to-back wins against Bangladesh and Pakistan to qualify for the semifinals. Their final group-stage match is against New Zealand, which will also be played in Dubai. While India’s performances have been widely praised, the tournament’s scheduling has sparked debate. Critics argue that India’s matches at a single venue give them an edge over other teams, who have to travel between Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi. Gillespie noted that the absence of travel stress benefits India. He also suggested that their squad selection was made with Dubai’s conditions in mind, giving them a strategic advantage. Speaking to The Times of India, he said, “India have an advantage playing only in Dubai. They are familiar with the wicket and have picked their squad accordingly.” Read also: Virat Kohli Nears 3000 Runs Against New Zealand in ODIs India’s Road to the Final and Gillespie’s Warning Regardless of their position in Group A, India’s semifinal will also be in Dubai. If they qualify for the final, it will be held at the same venue, despite Pakistan being the official tournament host. This has fuelled further discussion on the fairness of the schedule. Gillespie also spoke about India’s chances of lifting the trophy. He admitted that Rohit Sharma’s side is tough to beat but issued a warning, saying that the Steve Smith-led Australia can be a real challenge for India. He concluded, “India is already in the semis… but they will fear Australia."
