Pakistan Test cricket team’s head coach, Jason Gillespie, has voiced his support for out-of-form Babar Azam. The former Pakistan Test skipper has been going through a rough patch in his international career and now finds himself out of Pakistan’s squad for the England series. Babar, who failed to perform in the first Test, later found himself dropped from the remaining series. Babar Azam hasn't managed to score a Test fifty since December 2022. As a result, he was left out of Pakistan's lineup for the second and third Tests against England, a move that eventually paid off for the team. Kamran Ghulam stepped in for Babar at No. 4 and delivered a crucial century under pressure during the second Test. His performance played a key role in Pakistan's victory, allowing them to level the three-match series at 1-1. Jason Gillespie said: "Well again, I cannot answer that because I'm not a selector. But what I will say is that Babar is a fine player. I think he's one of the best players in the world. And, yeah, he had a bit of a lean, lean patch, but I don't think, but I don't think many great players around the world have never had a lean patch." Now, reports suggest that the PCB is uncertain about Babar's future in the Test team, and if his struggles continue in white-ball cricket, he could risk losing his spot there as well.
