Marco Jansen and Gerald Coetzee will be back to international cricket next month when the South African side will play a T20I series at home against India after a conditioning break. They have been a part of the CSA domestic T20 Challenge. Marco Jansen played his last game in June, where he represented the side at the T20 World Cup. Gerald Coetzee was last seen during the T20I series played in May against West Indies. The two bowlers were given time off to recover from shoulder and hip problem respectively. Cricket South Africa has a new plan of structured breaks for its players to enhance their fitness. Lungi Ngidi, who is part of the Test team currently touring Bangladesh but has not featured since an ODI back in October, gets a break over the next six weeks. He is working up for home Tests against Sri Lanka and Pakistan but is left out of the T20I squad against India. Kagiso Rabada too is rested considering Tests in mind. Even so, South Africa's team does not lack some of its prominent players. Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller, who missed the white-ball squads that toured the UAE, will play in the T20I team. Aiden Markram will retain the captaincy, though Reeza Hendricks and Ryan Rickelton are expected to open batting. The side has also given a place to two debutants all-rounders Mihlali Mpongwana and Andile Simelane. Interestingly, Tabraiz Shamsi, who renounced a national contract in the last month, cannot be seen here. His international selection is still open but South Africa has preferred to take Maharaj and the leg-spinner Nqabayomzi Peter. With the aim to strengthen the seam-bowling department, Lutho Sipamla would join the team for third and fourth matches in Highveld. Sipamla last played for South Africa in a Test match in 2022 and hasn't appeared in white-ball cricket since 2021. The player was selected in the squad after his excellent show in the T20 Challenge final, where he picked four wickets for just 12 runs.
