The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction has received a whopping 1574 registrations from players from different nations. The two-day event is set to take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Among the 409 overseas players registered for the upcoming IPL mega auction, one surprising name that stood out was 42-year-old James Anderson. The English cricket legend, who retired in July this year, has registered for the IPL auction for the first time in his long career, with a base price of INR 1.25 crore. Anderson’s move to enter the IPL pool is even more intriguing, given that he has never previously competed in any global T20 franchise league. Anderson ended his Test career with an impressive 704 wickets from 188 matches at an average of 26.45, alongside 269 wickets in 194 ODIs. His limited experience in T20 cricket includes just 44 matches, in which he has claimed 41 wickets at an average of 32.14. Despite his limited exposure to the T20 format, the Lancashire pacer has registered for the auction at a base price of INR 1.5 crore. Interestingly, while Anderson has thrown his hat into the IPL ring, England’s Test captain Ben Stokes has opted out of the 2025 auction. Stokes, who last featured in the IPL with Chennai Super Kings before withdrawing due to injury, won’t be eligible for any future IPL auctions unless he chooses to re-register next year. The auction list also includes 1,574 players in total, with prominent Indian stars like Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Shreyas Iyer listed at the top base price of INR 2 crore. Joining them in this high-profile category are experienced players such as Ravichandran Ashwin, and Yuzvendra Chahal.
