Touching Virat Kohli's feet rewarded two days in custory to an 18-year-old fan, Rituparno Pakhira, a resident of Jamalpur from Purba Brdhaman. However, Riturparno has been unfazed throughout, recalling his brief chat with his idolo, Virat Kohli. During IPL 2025's opening match on March 22, between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, at Kolkata's Eden Gardens, the young fan broke into the stadium, breaching the tight security. In the numerous videos that went viral, it was seen that he ran towards Kohli, touched his feet, and had a conversation for fractions of a second before the security dragged him away. In an interview with the Times of India, Rituparno shared that while he came to visit Kohli, the later candidly suggested him to leave as early as possible. Rituporno said, "The moment I touched his feet, Virat Kohli sir, asked my name and said, 'Jaldi se bhaag jaa (run away fast). He even asked the security to not hit me." Pakhira was taken into custody and charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for multiple offenses, including Section 132 (assault or use of criminal force against a public servant), Section 329(3) (criminal trespass), and Section 125 (endangering human life or personal safety through reckless or negligent actions). He was subsequently taken to the Maidan police station, where a sub-inspector lodged a suo moto complaint against him. However, on being produced to the court, the judge sentenced a day in custody for him, and also, he won't be able to watch any match in Eden Gardens for an year as a means of punishment.
