All-rounder Jalaj Saxena has opted to leave Kerala following nine seasons. Saxena began his domestic career with Madhya Pradesh in the 2005–06 season before moving to Kerala ahead of the 2016–17 season. He went on to represent Kerala until the 2024–25 season, featuring in 125 matches across different formats. The seasoned cricketer confirmed the move with an announcement on his official social media account on Tuesday, September 9. Here is what Saxena wrote on his Instagram post: "It's never easy to put my feelings into words, but today I want to share something close to my heart. I have played my last game in Kerala colours, and that thought still feels surreal,” “Saying this brings a strange mix of emotions - gratitude, pride and a little ache. Over the years, this team has given me more than just cricket. It gave me brothers, friends and a family that stood by me through every high and low. I've given blood, sweat, and tears - everything I had - for this journey, and in return, it gave me memories and bonds that will last a lifetime," he added. For Kerala, Saxena achieved a phenomenal total of 3153 runs as well as taking a total of 352 wickets. In 58 first-class games, he scored 2252 runs, among which three were centuries, and took 269 wickets at a magnificent average of 20.68, with 23 five-wicket hauls. His 269 Kerala first-class wickets are the second highest for the state, behind KN Ananthapadmanabhan with 310. In total, throughout his entire first-class career, Saxena has made 7060 runs and taken 484 wickets, including 34 five-wicket hauls. Saxena did not say which team he will be joining next, clarifying in his post that this is not a farewell. Even though one of the most consistent players in Indian domestic cricket in the last two decades, a call to the national side has still been elusive for him.
