India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has decided to part ways with Mumbai and will now represent Goa in domestic cricket. While Jaiswal said the move was because of a leadership role offered by Goa, reports suggest that a fallout with Mumbai’s management played a major role in his decision. According to a report by India Today, the rift between Jaiswal and Mumbai captain Rahane goes back to 2022. During the Duleep Trophy in 2022, Rahane, who was leading West Zone at that time, had asked Jaiswal to leave the field for using abusive language to sledge the South Zone batter Ravi Teja. Rahane felt Jaiswal had crossed the line, which reportedly started the strain between the two. Adding more to the issue, in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022, Jaiswal was often criticised for his shot selection, something he reportedly felt was unfair. The situation became worse during a recent Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir, where Mumbai lost unexpectedly. Notably, the match also featured Rohit Sharma. After the loss, Mumbai’s coach Omkar Salvi and Rahane questioned Jaiswal’s attitude and commitment, which angered the young batter. Reports claim he even kicked Rahane’s kitbag in frustration. Jaiswal reportedly felt this was aimed at him, which left him even more disappointed. Jaiswal explains his move to Goa Even though the move came after several internal issues, Jaiswal has thanked Mumbai Cricket Association for shaping his career. In an interview with The Indian Express, he called the decision to leave Mumbai “very tough”. “Whatever I am today is because of Mumbai… all my life, I will be indebted to the MCA,” Jaiswal said. However, he added that the chance to lead Goa was too good to turn down. “Whenever I’m not playing for India, I’ll be playing for Goa and will try to take them far in the tournament,” he added.
