At the Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester, Ravindra Jadeja got up to a stunning hundred on Day 5 of the 4th Test between India and England. Standing against Brook, Jadeja came down the track and pulled the ball down the ground for a six to score his hundred. He lifted his bat and helmet in excitement and nodded towards the dressing room with a grin. It was a richly deserved hundred, particularly after some of his previous attempts in the series ended in losing side. Here, he too put his money where his mouth is and performed when it counted. The public reacted with thunderous applause as Jadeja basked in the glory. After heartbreaking defeats at Headingley and Lord's, the team displayed incredible strength and grit in Manchester. With the series in the balance, India were buried under a heap of runs and had to bat for five entire sessions to prevent a defeat. They did it in calmness, focus, and determination. The last day had threatened to try their body and minds, but the batters held firm. England had opportunities the uneven bounce and footmarks of the pitch were waiting to be exploited but they could not put pressure consistently. Chances missed in the field and lack of bite in bowling, particularly in the absence of Ben Stokes, made life more difficult for them. On the other hand, India's batters, led by composed knocks in the middle order, batted with great skill and maturity. Under Shubman Gill's leadership, the team looked confident even in the toughest moments. Though India could not win the series, they kept it alive going into the final Test. It was the type of game that would define the character of this young squad one which battles, endures, and gets tougher with each obstacle.
