India received a huge blow after the wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant was detected with a toe fracture following the scans on Day 1 of the fourth Test against England at Manchester. A source close to the proceeding informed the Indian Express that Rishabh Pant needs at least six weeks to be fully fit for the game. This has apparently ruled him out from the remainder of the Anderson-Tendulkar Test series. However, multiple sources suggested that BCCI might try painkillers on him to make him capable of batting. And Dhruv Jurel, like in the third Test, will be keeping the wickets at Old Trafford too. As per the ICC Code of conduct, as the concussion does not involve the head or neck, Dhruv Jurel will not be batting in place of Rishabh Pant. And this has raised questions even for former England captain Michael Vaughan to speak up. Posting on his X handle, he wrote, "Clear and obvious injuries in the first innings of Tests we should allow like for like Subs .. we have concussion subs so surely we can have subs for injuries like Rishabhs .." Rishabh Pant was injured in the 68th over on Day 1, while he attempted a sweep shot against Chris Woakes. The ball touched his bat but crashed on his feet. He then left the field in a buggy after some minutes of on-field treatment. On Day 1 of the fourth Test, the Indian vice-captain struck 37 off 48 balls, taking his England tally to 1018 runs. His record includes four centuries and four fifties, with a best of 146. Pant has now surpassed MS Dhoni’s mark of 778 runs to become the highest-scoring visiting wicketkeeper in England. With this milestone, he joins legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar, Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul as Indian batters with 1000-plus Test runs in England.
