Joe Burns, the present captain for Italy, recalls his days for the Australian team when a little chirp to Virat Kohli backfired during the 2014-15 Border Gavaskar Series. Joe Burns was playing his debut match for Australia at Melbourne when he asked Kohli to hit a few shots, hoping to disrupt his attention. Instead of a few shots, Kohli went on playing a marathon innings of 169 runs off 272 balls, hitting 18 boundaries, his highest ever personal score in Test cricket. Notably, Burns was keeping at the bad-pat. His senior teammates Brad haddin and Shane Watson were constantly throwing words. Encouraged by that, the then 24 year of Burns, trie to dismantle the already set Virat Kohli, but all in vain. Recalling his sledge with Kohli, Burns said Crictracker, “I’m fairly certain Virat scored 100 that day. There was a little bit of chirp going on. Not sledging, just obviously we got Hadzi behind the stumps and Watto at first slip. Nathan Lyon was bowling, so I’m in close. I think it’d been four hours. I hadn’t said a word. I think I said one line. I said to him, ‘Virat, you got to play some shots’.” Read also: Dravid on Rohit: Captains Should Lead Teams He added, “He stopped the bowler, stopped Nathan Lyon, turned to me and said, ‘You don’t talk, rookie.’ Next ball he faced up, smacked it through covers. It was very embarrassing for me. I didn’t say a word the next four days after that, but it showed me that Virat was not someone to mess with. Kohli further scored a half century (59) in the second innings and had drawn the match. He continued his phenomenal run by scoring yet another century in the fourth and final Test in Sydney, ending the series with an impressive 692 runs from eight innings, averaging 86.50 and hitting four centuries. Despite his outstanding performance, India was unable to secure a series win, losing 0-2.
