Team India is currently fighting for their survival in the 4th Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Australia posted a mammoth score of 474 runs on the board after Steve Smith’s monstrous 140-run knock and Cummins’ crucial 49 runs. India got to a shaky start as they lost their captain Rohit Sharma on a mere score of just 3 runs. KL Rahul who was asked to switch his position to number three in Gill’s absence took some charge and played a crucial 24-run part to save India’s collapse. Team India is still trailing behind 310 runs and they need some crucial partnerships from their lower-order batters to make a comeback in this MCG Test. After the second day’s play, Washington Sundar revealed that the environment in the dressing room is good and he feels that this surface will become easier to bat on as the game progresses to the last day. As quoted by TOI, Sundar said: "We were in a great position to get big runs, but we will still come back and continue to fight tomorrow morning. The energy is very good in the dressing room, we are all positive. There's a long time in the game, still three days, lots of overs to play. It's about us trying to fight really hard and get things done for the team.” He further added: "It was a little soft yesterday because the sun didn't come out the whole day. The wicket also started to play a lot better today, and we batted really well. I guess tomorrow and the day after, it will be a good surface to bat on. The wicket won't change much, so it will be an exciting couple of days.” Another chance of following on is looming around on India’s head as they are still behind by a 310-run margin. Ravindra Jadeja who played a crucial 77-run knock in the third Test match is playing with Rishabh Pant on the crease. All the hopes of saving the match for their team will be on the shoulders of these two batters. Pant, who hasn’t looked good so far in the series will aim to score some runs here and contribute to his team’s total.
