Shubman Gill believes separating his batting from his captaincy responsibilities will benefit the team in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The Gujarat Titans batter took over the captaincy from Hardik Pandya in the last edition. However, things didn’t go as planned, as the team finished eighth with five wins and seven losses. In my experience, if I am going to bat, the best thing for me is to concentrate on batting. The decision I take as a batter is the best decision for me,” Gill said at the pre-season media conference on Wednesday. Gujarat Titans reached back-to-back finals in 2022 and 2023, with Gill playing a crucial role with the bat. In 2023, he amassed an impressive 890 runs. "When we are fielding, at that time, or off the field, I get more involved in captaincy. The more I bat, as a batter, the better it is for me,” said Gill. 'I don't think we need to change anything' Gill believes that Gujarat Titans have played consistent cricket over the past three years and sees no need for drastic changes in the upcoming season. "I think for the past three years we have played the most consistent cricket. I don't think we need to change anything. We'll continue to keep playing the cricket that we have been playing over the past three years," he said. However, he acknowledged that the team struggled in the powerplay last season, and is aiming for a more aggressive batting in the initial overs. "The plan is to score as many runs as possible and lose as few wickets as possible. As a batter, it is my responsibility to bat in a way that allows us to maximize the powerplay. That is what I strive for, and hopefully, this time we rectify the errors from last season," he said. Gujarat Titans will kick off their 2025 campaign against Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium on March 25.
