Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin felt that the Indian team is an "unfair world" where batters get more backing than the bowlers. He also felt that Akash Deep, who apparently struggled a bit in the last Border Gavaskar Trophy, might not get any chance in the team in future. Speaking to the AWS AI Conclave 2025, Bengaluru, Ashwin said, "It is an unfair world. The batters get cocooned, but the bowlers don't. You will find Akash Deep not playing another Test match because he didn't get enough wickets in Australia. But you will never find another batter who hasn't made enough runs not playing another game for India. That's exactly why Australia is a dominant force in world cricket and Indians aren't." Ashwin pointed out that, despite India having all the resources, Australia remains dominant because they have a clear understanding of their core strength—bowlers. He believes that once India recognizes this and their bowlers start leveraging data more effectively, they will reach the same level of dominance. He added, "Even though we have everything, I still think Australia are a dominant force because they know where their roots are and they know bowlers are their main guys who will win Test matches and tournaments. The day we get there, bowlers will start consuming data way better than they do." Ashwin recently retired from Test cricket with 537 wickets from 106 matches, in addition to 156 wickets in 116 ODIs and 72 wickets in 65 T20Is. Reflecting on his final Test appearance, Ashwin mentioned his participation in the day-night Test at Adelaide, where he took one wicket, marking the end of his illustrious career.
