Who would have thought that an on-field banter would become a huge topic and a news sensation, that players' families would get involved? This is about the IPL 2026 match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), where SRH pulled off a 55-run victory over RCB, but the only talking point was the awkward post-match interaction involving Virat Kohli and Travis Head. Right after the game, Travis Head’s wife, Jessica, said their family and friends also had to deal with online abuse from a section of Indian fans. The incident reminds us of the time when Head and his family were targeted and abused by the Indian fans after the 2023 ODI World Cup. Speaking to the Australian outlet The Advertiser, she said that it feels like it is the same kind of abuse they were getting after the ODI World Cup. Jessica told The Advertisers that: “It feels like a repeat of the abuse that happened after the World Cup. I woke up to my socials blasting. We are fine, but they are attacking my friends and family.” She further added that this was not the first time she faced something like this. The online abuse has happened in the past after Australia’s wins in the 2023 World Test Championship final, and yes again in the 2024 Boxing Day Test. “I think across all sports at the moment there’s an important conversation around mental health, perspective, and the way we speak to one another. Passion will always be part of sport, but so is remembering there are real people and families behind the game. Hopefully, this encourages more kindness and support for one another.” Talking about the Sunrisers Hyderabad, they are one of the top four contenders for the title this year. They finished third on the points table and are set to face the Rajasthan Royals in the eliminator match of the IPL 2026 on May 27.
