Former Indian cricketer turned commentator Sanjay Bangar believes Ishan Kishan was overshadowed in the Mumbai Indians line-up, whereas he has found greater freedom at Sunrisers Hyderabad. After representing the Mumbai Indians for seven years, Ishan Kishan was released ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, where Sunrisers Hyderabad secured his services for INR 11.25 Crore. Donning the Orange jersey for the first time, Kishan made a strong statement with an unbeaten 106 off 47 deliveries against the Rajasthan Royals. The Indian batter also had shown promise in the national team, but was dropped from the central contract for not prioritizing domestic cricket. After a tough phase, Kishan has staged a roaring comeback with SRH. "When Ishan Kishan was playing for MI, he was probably overshadowed a little bit by the likes of the other luminaries in the team, maybe a Rohit or a Sky or Hardik and Jasprit," Bangar said to JioHotstar. Bangar also pointed out that despite Kishan's consistent performances, he faced exclusion from the Indian squad. "Ishan has been doing really well when he was left out of the squad and he was out of favour for some amount of time. But what I liked about his approach was that he seems to have cleared all the doubts that were there in his mind earlier times," he added. 'He is his own man in SRH' Further elaborating, Bangar praised the supportive environment at SRH, which has allowed Kishan to express himself better. "Here he is, he can be his own man, and he has the space. Because, if you look at that particular team, the kind of characters that are there, maybe Abhishek, who's a young guy who must have obviously played a lot, with Ishan, and Travis Head and Klaasen. So they do their own things, but from being just another player to being the person makes a massive difference to how a player can produce results and how a player starts looking at himself," Bangar said. He also stressed how the favorable batting conditions in Hyderabad could work to Kishan’s advantage. "It's a huge opportunity, he has taken it really well, fabulous knock. He's going to get to bat in similar situations for another 6-7 games because those are very good batting-friendly conditions in Hyderabad," he remarked. Sunrisers Hyderabad will face Lucknow Super Giants in their second match of IPL 2025 on March 27 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Following that, they will travel to Visakhapatnam to take on Delhi Capitals on March 30.
