Ishan Kishan is likely to miss the Duleep Trophy 2024 opener starting on September 5. Kishan is a part of Team D under Shreyas Iyer (captain) but has been a doubt for the game owing to reasons unknown. As per Cricbuzz, Kishan is believed to have picked up an injury. However, the nature and seriousness of it are not known yet. The 26-year-old, Indian batter had recently represented his state team, Jharkhand, in the Buchi Babu tournament in Chennai. He had a brilliant start in the tournament with a century, 114, but did poorly in the second, getting just one and five runs respectively in two innings. Last season, Ishan was fined by national selectors for failing to show up in a number of Ranji Trophy games despite a BCCI directive to participate. The board made it clear only participation in state matches could bring him into the national selection. Participating in the Buchi Babu tournament may have been an exercise to fulfill those requirements. However, Kishan's hopes of entry as a late entrant are not entirely extinguished. He might return later stages of this tournament. Apart from Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, too, is suspected of being ruled out of the Duleep Trophy because of a hand injury he suffered during the Buchi Babu tournament. He has been undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA in Bengaluru. Also, the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) in India withdrew all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and pacer Mohammed Siraj from this year's competition due to different reasons altogether.
