The moment Rishabh Pant suffered an injury and was ruled out of the England Test series, the Indian selectors had considered introducing Ishan Kishan to the team as a replacement as Kishan did well in England during his County stint. But Kishan denied going as he couldn't travel, not due to form or preference, but due to an unusual injury. The selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, made a call to Kishan immediately after the news of Pant's injury came out, but the wicketkeeper-batter from Jharkhand had to decline. Kishan injured himself in a strange accident, according to reports, he jumped off a scooty and injured his left ankle severely enough to require stitches. It was impossible for him to travel to England so early. Ishan Kishan was in good form lately, representing Nottinghamshire in the County Championship. He impressed with 87 and 77 points during his limited exposure. But the injury left India searching elsewhere for a replacement for Pant. Jagadeesan, a right-handed wicketkeeper-batter, has appeared in 52 first-class games to date. He has scored 3,373 runs in those matches and held his end steady, capturing 133 catches and 14 stumpings. As per Cricbuzz, Jagadeesan "is almost certain" to be included in the Indian team before the final Test. The selectors had initially considered Kishan as the priority, but with the 27-year-old Jharkhand player out of contention because of injury, Jagadeesan now appears a certainty for his Test team call-up. The report stated: "Jagadeesan is expected join the squad ahead of the fifth and final Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The selectors and the team management were looking at Ishan Kishan as a potential option and it later emerged that the 27-year-old keeper from Jharkhand is not available." However, it is not certain that Jagadeesan will get a game or not as Dhruv Jurel, who is currently keeping the wickets in the fourth Test and has done the same in most of the period in which Pant was absent, may find himself in the XI for the fifth Test.
