A Young Indian cricketer Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is now facing a controversy following a verbal exchange during an India A match. The 15-year-old cricketer during the match against Sri Lanka A in Dambulla failed to make a significant mark with the bat and was later seen in an on-field scuffle which rapidly became viral on social media. The incident came at the end of a gripping match which eventually ended in a tie before Sri Lanka A sealed victory in the Super Over. The 15-year-old scored 21 runs in 14 deliveries and failed to register a substantial score in the Super Over. But the incident that overshadowed the game occurred once the match concluded. The argument between Sooryavanshi and the Sri Lanka A players As per reports circulating the web and with the help of videos it appears that Sooryavanshi walked back to the pavilion but returned at one stage and started arguing with the Sri Lanka A players. It can be seen that both the parties had a chat and at times appeared frustrated. According to some people on social media the Sri Lanka A players may have tempted him to get into an argument while leaving the field. (@Qamar5618) June 15, 2026 It is reported that Sooryavanshi was also one of the India A players who requested the umpire to conduct the Super Over despite a lack of light in Dambulla. Captain Tilak Varma also a part of the Indian squad for the upcoming tours to Ireland and England was present as well. The situation is alarming as Sooryavanshi is set to create a new record by representing India for the first time in international cricket as he has recently been picked in India's squad for the T20I series against Ireland and England on the back of his sensational IPL 2026 season with the Rajasthan Royals. There is currently no such report of Sooryavanshi being banned by the ICC and his debut might not be impacted, given that the match was an India A game rather than an official international encounter. The umpire may have considered banning the young prodigy from playing the Super Over match and warned him but this case might not lead to an official ICC suspension as the incident was during an 'A' level encounter. The match referee may probe the matter and take appropriate action but if anything happens it is unlikely to be an international ban. The Board of Control for Cricket in India may also intervene in the issue considering the age and emerging career of Sooryavanshi and warn the player. Currently it is reported that Sooryavanshi has not been suspended and would continue to play for India A and travel with the team for future games. It will also be an opportunity for him to learn from this incident and mature as a player. The Indian A side have already seen a tough defeat with this result and are on the backfoot. They have only one win in three matches and face a do-or-die game against Afghanistan A on the 17th of June to advance into the final. Sooryavanshi must focus on putting the event in the past and come back into form at the earliest possible time to make a mark when he plays his first international game for India, which is expected to be very soon.
