India’s young Test captain Shubman Gill has drawn attention—not for his runs, but for his rage. After India’s loss at Lord’s, former cricketer Manoj Tiwary questioned Gill’s combative style, drawing parallels with ex-skipper Virat Kohli. Gill was seen confronting England openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett on Day 3 of the Lord’s Test, accusing them of time-wasting. The verbal duel, however, ended in England’s favour. They won the match and took a 2-1 lead in the five-Test series. Gill, on the other hand, failed with the bat—scoring only 16 and 6. Tiwary didn’t hold back in his assessment. Speaking to SportsBoom.com, he said, "I don't like the way captain Gill is going about things. I think he is trying to copy what Virat did last time. And as a result, it is not helping his batting. Ever since he became a captain in the IPL, I have noticed that he is getting into an aggressive mindset, and having animated chats with umpires. It was unlike Gill. He doesn't need to show that kind of aggression, and doesn't have to prove anything." Read also: Fact Check: Did the Footballer Wear Indian Jersey as Prithvi Shaw Fan? Aggression and its aftershocks: Tiwary’s warning for Gill Tiwary warned that excessive aggression can drain a leader’s energy and even impact team dynamics. He feels Shubman Gill should strike a balance. Tiwari added, "I know a captain should lead from the front, but this much aggression is not required. It takes your energy away." While Tiwary believes aggression can be healthy, he stressed it must stay within limits. "He can stick to his style of being aggressive. It doesn't mean that you have to always give it back verbally. Aggression can also be shown by winning Test matches. India could have easily led the series 2-1." Tiwary also pointed out the deteriorating on-field language. "I am not happy with the language and words that are coming in the audio when they are near the stumps... this needs to be controlled. If you use slang, the next generation will pick it up." India face England in the fourth Test at Manchester on July 23.
