The Indian all rounder, Ravindra Jadeja, revealed that he has missed his long-term spin partner, Ravichandran Ashwin, during the first Test of the two-match series against the West Indies. Jadeja was the star of the match, as he scored a century and took four wickets in the Test match. However, after the match, he attended the press conference, where he said that he took time to get used to the new combination the team has now. Jadeja accepted the fact that he was expecting Ashwin to pick the ball, however, the routine has changed. Jadeja said, “Playing a Test in India without Ash, somewhere it feels Ash would bowl now, but then the realisation comes that he is not there." He added, “Kuldeep (Yadav) and Washy (Washington Sundar) have played enough games, so we cannot term them youngsters, but it was a different combination. In future, you will say Jaddu is not there, but then someone else will come along, and that has to happen. This will go on." India was already at 448 having a healthy lead of 286 runs in the first innings. Jadeja said, “We were thinking about the declaration last night because we thought on this wicket, 280 plus runs would be good enough." Notably, Ravindra Jadeja has been considered as the vice captain of the team in the absence of Rishabh Pant, who is recovering from a foot injury. However, Jadeja feels that the tag is not doing much to his role in the team. He stated, “Nothing like that. I have been playing the way I have been playing for the past so many years. (There is) nothing special that I need to think like that. But whenever someone asks me, what we can do, what the tactics should be… I always give my inputs, so if the team wants something, I am always happy to do it."
