LSG's comeback seems to have taken a different course for Mayank Yadav. He is a young Delhi pacer who surprised everyone with his fiery pace last year but has struggled to find success in IPL 2025. Even in the recent game against the Punjab Kings, he failed to bowl seriously fast and hence the Punjab batters completely dominated in Dharamsala. Mayank was injured for the first half of the season. Like the rise of Umran in 2022, Mayank grabbed attention with his explosive pace last year. He intimidated the best batters, including Virat Kohli, in just four games, regularly bowling at speeds above 150kph. Such raw potential forced LSG to retain him for a whopping ₹11 crore. But the investment failed to deliver. Across two matches this season, Mayank never really hit the speeds he is known for. His medium-fast bowling has hovered at 130kmphs, with very occasional forays into the low 140s. There have been no thunderbolts of 150kph speed ever since, hence no effects. The 22-year-old may have been compromised in Dharamsala by Punjab Kings. Josh Inglis hit three sixes in a row off of him in the opening over. Prabhsimran Singh also went after him, and Mayank's powerplay spell ended at 0/36 across two overs. He did try to bowl the full quota but ended up giving away 60 runs for no wickets; hardly the pace spearhead LSG banked on. His maestros of fast speed were fast-tracked into the Indian scheme but without them, he is without menace. His career arc followed a similar one to that of Umran Malik. The J&K speedster performed at Sunriser Hyderabad with regular clocks of 155kmph and grabbed 22 wickets in one season. He was very quickly included in the Indian squad but lacked the basics that umpired his demise. Effects of injuries and lack of confidence pushed Malik into oblivion. Now he is missing IPL 2025 due to an injury-an unfortunate reminder of how pace careers are fragile.
