Jasprit Bumrah has been one of the finest fast bowlers India ever produced in the twenty-first century. However, his body, in the recent past, has been struggling to dwell on the workload he is normally assigned to. In such a situation, he has been deprived of his well-deserved Test captaincy, fearing that he might not be able to play all the five Tests against England. And now, Bumrah broke silence on his future plans. Recently, he sat in an interview with former Aussie captain Michael Clarke on the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast, where he said that he has no particular numbers he aims to achieve before he retires. But he said that he will make sure to give back everything that the sport gave him before he hangs up his boots. He said, "This is a sport that I fell in love with. I went to Australia this time, and a lot of youngsters came up to me and tried to copy my [bowling] action. Which is surreal because I used to do that. So yeah, this journey will not always go on, but whenever it ends, I want to give it back to the sport. Because whatever I have and whatever I have learnt in life is through this sport. Thankful to the journey that I have had." In the final one, at Sydney, he had to leave the field halfway and had to go for scans. For that, he missed major tournaments before coming back in the IPL. Fear rose, saying that a second injury in the same spot might ruin his career forever. And that hit BCCI, and they became serious about Bumrah. Speaking about his body, Bumrah said that he doesn't wanna quit but be smart with his body as the tournament will go. He said, "It is tough for any individual to keep playing everything for so long. I have been doing it for a while. But eventually, you have to understand where your body is going and what the important tournaments are, so you have to be a little selective and smart about how you use your body. Obviously, as a cricketer, I would never want to leave anything and always keep on going." He added, "At this moment, I am ok. But I don't set goals such as this is the number I should be at. I look at it one day at a time. The journey is going good so far, but the day I realize that the drive is gone or the effort is not there or my body is not holding up, that is the time when you make the decision." Presently, Jasprit Bumrah is one of the few names shining in the dark sky deprived of stars from prime Indian cricket. Back in Australia, Ravichandran Ashwin declared his retirement. Amidst IPL, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma declared retirement through a mere Instagram post and story, respectively. And now, if not for the fans, the Indian team needs this man, fit and fine, guarding the youngsters to something more memorable and valiant in the history of Indian Test Cricket.
