Home side India was outplayed on the third day of the second Test played at the MCA Stadium in Pune as New Zealand took the game by 113 runs. In the first Test played at Bengaluru, India were beaten by eight wickets. With this loss at Pune, India lost a Test series at home after 12 years. Notably, their last Test series drubbing at home was against England in 2012. In both Tests, it may be said that the batting department in the team headed by Rohit Sharma went through a listless experience. What is more ironical is that it has been the country who possess some of the great batsmen who play the turn of the ball as smoothly as walking in a garden, have its batters presenting wickets on silver platter to someone like Mitchell Santner, who got away with 13 wickets. Former India allrounder Irfan Pathan, after the abysmal loss, has requested the senior players of the team to look into themselves and has congratulated Kiwis. Here is What Irfan Wrote on Twitter "Well done, New Zealand, on winning the series on Indian soil! For Team India, there's a lot to reflect on. Senior players need to step up and deliver in the ultimate format of the game. The next three months will be crucial for them,” Well done, New Zealand, on winning the series on Indian soil! Besides, both batters have failed to come among the runs in the four innings they have batted in two games until now. While Rohit has scored 62 runs at an average of 15.50, Kohli has accrued 88 runs at an average of 22. On the other side, other experienced players Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja haven't appeared their best with the ball. Both the spinners have taken six wickets in four innings and averaged 43.50 and 37.50 respectively.
