In the latest developments coming from the Ireland women’s cricket team camp, their star 19-year-old player, Freya Sargent, has announced an indefinite break from international cricket due to personal reasons, as quoted by the official website of Cricket Ireland. Freya Sargent made her international debut in 2023 and grabbed eyeballs with her consistent performance, becoming one of the promising young talents from the country. One of her career highlights is that she was nominated for the ICC Women’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year award in 2024 for her strong performances at the first two Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cups in 2023 and 2025. The 19-year-old has represented Ireland in 16 ODIs and 16 T20Is, picking up 33 wickets across formats. As quoted by the Cricket Ireland official website, West said: “Freya has been a valued member of the senior performance squad for the past three years, making a significant contribution both on and off the field. She has been an integral part of the team. Cricket Ireland will continue to support Freya during this time, the Team Management Unit are all agreed this is the best option available to Freya. Player well-being is paramount to us and takes precedence over everything else.” The spinner had recently recovered from an injury and featured at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup European Qualifier in August. It is worth mentioning that she was recently handed her full-time contract with the Irish side. Talking about the recent performance of the Ireland women’s cricket team, they featured in the Women’s T20 World Cup European Qualification Division 1 last month and won all six of their matches, topping the points table.
