Ireland have named a new Test squad for their tour of Bangladesh, with five uncapped individuals receiving maiden call-ups. Skipper Andrew Balbirnie will captain the team in what will be a series of immense importance to Ireland's red-ball development as the team seeks to add depth and resilience after their last Test loss to Bangladesh in 2023. Cade Carmichael, Liam McCarthy, Jordan Neill, and Stephen Doheny have been given their first Test call-ups, a major move by the selectors to bring in fresh blood into the system. All-rounder Gavin Hoey, who has already been included in the Test squad but has yet to make his debut, is also one of the uncapped players selected for the tour. The selection of these youngsters is Cricket Ireland's vision of preparing the new generation for the rigors of Test cricket. The selectors seem to be counting on the domestic form and ability of these cricketers, who have impressed with their performance in formats in the past few months. He will only play the T20I portion of the tour as he builds up his fitness gradually. The absence of Mark Adair in the longer format will most likely pave the way for up-and-coming pacers to come forward in Bangladesh's demanding conditions. The Test squad will, nonetheless, possess senior stars like Paul Stirling, Harry Tector, and Andy McBrine, whose experience will be crucial in navigating the inexperienced players through subcontinental conditions. Curtis Campher and Lorcan Tucker, who have displayed consistency in limited-overs as well as red-ball cricket, are included in the list as well, giving strength to the middle order. The tour commences next month, with the first Test to begin on November 11 in Sylhet and the second Test on November 19 in Dhaka.
