On Tuesday, March 11, Ireland announced that the Ireland Cricket Board couldn't host Afghanistan for the multi-format series due to financial restraints. Initially, Afghanistan was supposed to tour Ireland for a Test match, followed by three ODIs and three T20s in July. However, Ireland will play against the West Indies in 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is during May-June 2025 and is scheduled for a T20I series against England in September. After announcing Ireland's summer schedule on Tuesday, chief executive Warren Deutrom said that financial constraints have been the major reason for denying Afghanistan. He said, "One planned series that won't go ahead for financial reasons is against Afghanistan. This decision is part of our management of short-term budgetary constraints, as well as our requirement to comply with the Board's mandate to deliver balanced investment across the organisation's strategic objectives." Deutrom also stated that Cricket Ireland plans to invest in improving infrastructure and facilities throughout the country. He added, "Off the field, recent Programme for Government announcements will enable us to continue our planning for the new Dublin stadium and for the 2030 T20 World Cup, while we’re looking forward to announcing infrastructure and facilities investments across Ireland as part of our expanded Club Fund and also formally welcoming Connacht Cricket Union to the fold. All in all, on and off the pitch, in time this will be recognized as one of the more consequential years in Irish cricket history."
