Ireland batted first and set their highest T20I against South Africa, totaling 195-6 upon after South Africa opted to bowl. Ross Adair played exceptionally well as he scored his maiden century in T20 Internationals in 57 balls and went on to smash nine sixes. Paul Stirling also contributed with the bat, scoring 52 runs while significantly supporting the opening stand that had reached 137 runs. Ireland, however, lost 6 wickets for 43 runs but still managed to put a formidable target to South Africa. The South African openers started really well as Reeza Hendricks scored consecutive half century (51) and Matthew Breetzke also scored 51. The bowler took two wickets in a row, removing Wiaan Mulder and Matthew Breetzke, then later dismissed Nqabayomzi Peter, ending with 4-31. Graham Hume bowled in the final over, giving away just seven runs and taking a wicket, helping Ireland hold South Africa to 185-9. The win was a big moment for Ireland, as they became the first team to win batting first in the last eight T20Is at Zayed Cricket Stadium. In fact, they had already achieved their second-ever win against South Africa as the first came in an ODI. In Abu Dhabi this Wednesday, both teams would now shift their attention on a three-match ODI series.
