The captain of the Mumbai side, Ajinkya Rahane missed a century by three runs on the second day of the Irani Cup 2024 in Lucknow. Rahane started the day at 86 and added 11 more before getting out to Rest of India (ROI) fast bowler Yash Dayal's delivery. Rahane played hard, but somehow the dismissal seemed a surprise. Dayal's fast bouncer aimed at him led to Rahane trying to get away from it. Unfortunately, the ball brushed the glove and Dhruv Jurel caught it behind the wicket. The RoI fielders made a hopeful appeal, but the on-field umpire declined. Ruturaj Gaikwad, the captain then reviewed the decision, and it was successful. Mukesh dismissed Prithvi Shaw (4), Hardik Tamore (0), and Ayush Mhatre (19) and this left Mumbai struggling at 37/3 as RoI opted for field first at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Thursday. Rahane steadied the innings, and he and Iyer added 102 for the fourth wicket, bringing Mumbai to 139/3 before Iyer got out. Iyer scored 57 off 84 balls before getting dismissed by Dayal. Sarfaraz, who was dropped from India's Test squad in Kanpur for the Irani Cup, joined his captain to assist the team. The Ranji champions ended the day at 237/4. Whereas a century remained elusive for Rahane, Sarfaraz made amends with a hundred of his own.
