The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a platform which provides young talents an opportunity to showcase their skills. Over the years, many players have graced the league with their stunning and mind-boggling performances. Scoring big or taking a fifer on debut at young age is always special for every aspiring cricketer. One question that always brings curiosity is: Who is the youngest player to have scored a century in IPL history? The answer isn't that simple as you think. Over the years, we have witnessed numerous young players making headlines in this league, but very few have achieved a hundred at young age. Let's recall a memorable match that provided us with this historic record. A Match to Remember - RCB vs Deccan Chargers, 2009 It was the 56th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2009, which was played at Centurion on May 21. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were up against the Gilchrist-led Deccan Chargers. RCB required a victory to improve their chances of entering the playoffs, and the tension was high. Winning the toss, RCB decided to bat first but their decision did not pay off initially as they lost the wicket of Jacques Kallis for only 5 runs. But from there on, a young player grabbed the innings by the scruff and played one of the best knocks in the history of IPL. His name was not well-known then, but at the end of the game, he became the talk of the town. He bashed bowlers everywhere on the field, scoring 10 fours and 4 sixes. His strike rate was above 150, and he stayed unbeaten until the end of the innings. With a mature and calm attitude at a young age, he assisted RCB in posting a competitive total of 170/4 in 20 overs. Other RCB batters such as Roelof van der Merwe and Virat Kohli played handy knocks of 23 and 19* respectively, but it was this young man's innings that stood out. He scored his fifty in 36 balls and then went on to score his century in only 67 balls. Herschelle Gibbs played a gutsy knock of 60 runs, and there were minor contributions from others such as Symonds (18), Rohit Sharma (12) and Azhar Bilakhia (18*). However, the bowlers of Royal Challengers Bangalore did a good job of restraining them. Anil Kumble and Balachandra Akhil scalped 2 wickets each, while van der Merwe had one to his name. Even with a solid beginning, Deccan Chargers were short and could only post 158/6 in 20 overs. RCB secure a win by 12 runs. The performer of the day was, without any doubt, the young batter who played a gem of a knock 114* off merely 73 balls. He was adjudged as Player of the Match for his vital innings.
