The Orange Cap-one of the biggest individual awards in the IPL-is given to the highest run-getter of a season. Ever since the first edition of the tournament in 2008, quite a few world-class batters have made it to the list after a consistent display. Recently, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi-who emerged as the highest run-scorer in the IPL 2026 edition-claimed the Orange Cap, finishing as the leading run-scorer of the tournament with 776 runs in 16 games. The Rajasthan Royals batter also became one of the youngest players to achieve the award. The Australian opening batter achieved the same in 2015, 2017, and 2019. No other batter has won more than Warner. The consistency that Warner displayed across multiple seasons makes him one of the greatest overseas batters in the history the cash-rich league. He always scored heavily at the top of the order and was crucial for Sunrisers Hyderabad establishing themselves as strong contenders. Kohli and Gayle Follow Behind Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli are the only two other batters to have received the award more than once. Gayle claimed two consecutive Orange Caps with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2011 and 2012, completely changing the nature of T20 cricket. Kohli also ended up winning two Orange Caps with RCB in 2016 and 2024, and is the second Indian to do so. In 2016, Kohli hit a record 973 runs to claim the award. That score is still the highest individual tally of runs in a single IPL season. Besides these three, all other batters-Shaun Marsh, Matthew Hayden, Sachin Tendulkar, Michael Hussey, Robin Uthappa, Kane Williamson, KL Rahul, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Jos Buttler, Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi-have won the award only once each, but all of them were exceptional during their award-winning seasons.
