The 2026 Indian Premier League mini auction is likely to take place in mid-December. According to a report from Cricbuzz, the mini-auction will be scheduled on December 13-15. However, the reports are suggesting that unlike the last two seasons, this year, the auction might be scheduled in India. The 2025 IPL auction was notably held in Jeddah, Dubai. The report further said that the teams are requested to submit the retention list by November 15. Well, a few players are in a messy situation right now. One of them is Sanju Samson, who is currently in a situation where Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings are not ready with each other's terms in trading the keeper. If the trade is finalized, it's good; otherwise, RR may release Samson. Teams can retain up to five players before the auction, with the retention deadline set for November 5. Franchises are allowed to retain a maximum of three capped Indian players, two overseas players, and two uncapped Indian players, with at least one uncapped Indian required if all five retention slots are used. For the first time, the WPL will permit the right-to-match (RTM) option, enabling teams to buy back players from their 2025 squads. The number of RTMs available depends on the number of retained players, with a maximum of five RTMs for minimal retentions. Retention slabs are defined as Rs 3.5 crore for Player 1, Rs 2.5 crore for Player 2, Rs 1.75 crore for Player 3, Rs 1 crore for Player 4, and Rs 50 lakh for Player 5. Deductions from the auction purse depend on the number of retained players, and negotiations can adjust retention values. Franchises must submit retention lists by November 5, auction entries by November 7, player registrations by November 18, with the official auction list released on November 20.
