Rajasthan Royals (RR) made a splash at the IPL 2025 mega-auction in Saudi Arabia by signing Wanindu Hasaranga for a whopping INR 5.25 crore. However, after just one season, the franchise has decided to part ways with the talented all-rounder. Looking ahead, Hasaranga is definitely a player to keep an eye on during the IPL 2026 mini-auction, which is set for December 16 at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. Given his track record, he could ignite a bidding frenzy, just like he has in past auctions. In the previous season, Hasaranga managed to take 11 wickets in 11 matches, including a standout four-wicket haul against the Chennai Super Kings. His bowling average stood at 33.73, with an economy rate of 9.05. Unfortunately, his batting left much to be desired, as he only scored nine runs. Although he was promoted in the batting order for some matches to accelerate the scoring, the Galle-born cricketer didn’t quite meet expectations. While his bowling was decent, it didn’t quite hit the mark for an aggressive spinner. Consequently, the Royals opted to release him, along with fellow Sri Lankan Maheesh Theekshana, ahead of the upcoming auction. In 2024, Rajasthan had two seasoned Indian spinners in R Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal, but they chose to release both and brought in the Sri Lankan duo of Hasaranga and Theekshana. Unfortunately, neither of the overseas spinners lived up to their potential. Now, Rajasthan is likely on the hunt for spinners who can pose a real threat to their opponents, especially during the middle overs. Ravi Bishnoi is expected to be a hot commodity at the auction, with a base price set at INR 2 crore. With INR 16.05 crore available, the Royals might go all out for Bishnoi, as they have most other positions well covered. Bishnoi brings a wealth of experience, having played 42 T20Is and taken 61 wickets. He could very well be the match-winner that Rajasthan Royals are hoping to find with the ball. Rahul Chahar is another leg-spinner who could catch the Royals' attention. With his solid experience, he has a knack for taking wickets in bunches during the middle overs. If Rajasthan is on the hunt for an overseas spinner, Tabraiz Shamsi might be a great choice. Although the South African spinner can sometimes concede runs, he’s a true wicket-taker. His experience gives him an edge, and he can be quite effective on pitches that offer some assistance to spinners. With a variety of options available, both from local talent and international players, the Royals might not look back after letting Hasaranga go.
