Mumbai Indians (MI) aren't having the start they would have hoped for to their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 campaign. Despite winning their first match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Hardik Pandya's side has now lost back to back games against Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) which will put a lot of pressure on them early on in the season. In their last game against RR, due to rain the match was reduced to 11 overs per side. MI won the toss and decided to bowl first, however their bowlers struggled to restrict their opposition and were poor in restricting the opposition to a manageable total, with the Royals posting a huge total of 150/3 off their 11 overs. Their reply chase started off disastrously as they lost 5 wickets in just the first 5 overs of the innings and chasing was never going to be possible. This collapse has brought the poor nature of their batting under pressure clearly into the spotlight. Mumbai Indians will now take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in match 20 on April 12. RCB have been very dominant in the early part of the season winning both of their first two games with relative ease. Mumbai will need to turn things around immediately if they are to compete in this match. Rickelton started his IPL 2026 campaign with a fifty in the first game but has failed in his subsequent 2 innings. The struggling form of Mumbai in the powerplay will need to be addressed and de Kock is someone who would provide stability in the top order and his experience at the level would be invaluable. He is also someone who has played for MI previously and should have a decent understanding of their systems and ways. Santner In, Ghazanfar Out MI could also think of including Mitchell Santner over Allah Ghazanfar. Although, MI picked Ghazanfar as the spinner in the last match Santner would be a more experienced choice. Mitchell Santner is not only a bowler, he is also handy with the bat in the lower order. The all-round performance can be useful in crunch situations. He was present in the squad when MI faced DC, but missed out on a place in the XI when they played against RR. In a crunch game against a potent batting line up such as RCB's, having an experienced player such as Santner could make a world of difference. His ability to stay cool and game awareness could help MI in dictating the middle overs in the games ahead. Also Read | 0 Wickets in 3 Matches! What’s Gone Wrong for Jasprit Bumrah in IPL 2026? Pace Attack Has To Be Better The most serious concern for MI has been their pace bowling department. They gave away a lot of runs to the opposition in their previous encounter. Deepak Chahar and Shardul Thakur seemed to go for a lot of runs, without making any kind of an impact. Even, experienced pacers such as Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult failed to deliver. This clearly proves that the entire pace attack unit needs to perform. MI will look at varying their bowling attack in the upcoming game. They need to find the perfect blend in their bowling attack, and make sure the bowlers follow their plans, and have control of the game. Playing against RCB’s strong batting line up is not going to be easy, and MI must do something to improve their bowling attacking line up.
