Gujarat Titans (GT) lost to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 33 runs on May 22 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. GT skipper Shubman Gill decided to bowl first, but the plan did not go in his favor. LSG's opener Mitchell Marsh hammered his maiden IPL hundred and led his side to 235/2. GT attempted to pursue the huge target, and Shahrukh Khan battled intensely with a quick 57 off 29 balls. But GT still didn't make it and couldn't achieve the target. This was their fourth defeat of the season. Despite the defeat, GT remained at the top of the points table with 18 points from 13 matches. GT Can Finish 2nd with 18 points, Even if they Lose Against CSK RCB lose both their games (against SRH on May 23 and against LSG on May 27), and PBKS win against Mumbai Indians (MI) on May 26. GT Can End up 3rd if: RCB and PBKS win one each of their remaining matches, and GT loses to CSK. If Gujarat Titans finishes 4th after the league stage, they will play the Eliminator match against 3rd-placed on May 30 at Mullanpur. This will give them only one opportunity to head forward towards the final. Also, they will need to win three successive matches to lift the trophy and hence, GT will play their hearts out agaisnt CSK in order to secure a spot in top two.
