Chennai Super Kings, continuing the trend of already eliminated teams defeating the qualified ones, ensured a thumping win over the Gujarat Titans on Sunday afternoon in Ahmedabad. The encounter turned out to be entirely one sided as CSK handed a mammoth defeat to the home team by 83 runs. Not a Miserable End to CSK's Campaign Having lost 10 matches already this season, CSK won the toss and decided to bat first in their last outing. Skipper MS Dhoni's decision was proven absolutely right by their batters as they put on a huge total of 230/5 in 20 overs. All of the top and middle order contributed in an aggressive way with Dewald Brevis and Devon Conway scoring fifties. Coming to the second innings, the hosts never looked comfortable in the chase as they kept losing quick wickets one after the other. After being reduced to 30/3 inside the powerplay itself, GT's middle order didn't help it either as they lacked the ability to build the innings. As a result, they were bundled out for 147 in 18.3 overs with Anshul Kamboj and Noor Ahmed picking up 3 wickets each. CSK end their campaign at the bottom of the points table but the fact that they managed to defeat the team placed at no. 1 would definitely give them a sense of hope for the next season. However, now that they have lost it, this means that the two spots for Qualifier 1 are still up for grabs for all the four teams in the Playoffs. CSK's win on Sunday has surely added a lot of spice and excitement for the last couple of days of the league stage as the final positions of the teams will be decided based on the result of the last match, that is, RCB vs LSG. Any of the four qualified teams can end up in the top 2 positions based on the results of the last two league games. GT, PBKS, RCB and MI currently have 18, 17, 17 and 16 points respectively. GT have no more matches left whereas PBKS and MI are all set to clash with each other on Monday. Meanwhile RCB will lock horns with LSG in the last league match of IPL 2025. The winner of the PBKS vs MI match will officially confirm its place in the Qualifier 1 while the loser would have to step towards the Eliminator. The second team to seal the top 2 would either be GT or RCB. If RCB go on to defeat LSG on Tuesday, they'll be joining PBKS/MI in the Qualifier 1, otherwise in case of a loss, they will head to the Eliminator, making way for GT to have the advantage. RCB Strengthen Bowling Attack for IPL 2025 Playoffs Eliminated Teams Continue to Spoil the Party GT vs CSK was the 4th match on the trot where the eliminated team defeated the already qualified one, thus spoiling their fun and denting their chances of ending up in top two. LSG defeated GT, SRH defeated RCB, DC went on to defeat PBKS and the week concluded with GT once again losing- this time against CSK. If any of these teams would have won their match, they would have secured their place in the Qualifier 1, but it seems that god had some other plans. A significant contributing factor to such results could be the extra pressure on the qualified teams while the eliminated teams playing a fearless brand of cricket as they had nothing to lose and therefore, bringing out their best performance. Now it has all come down to the wire. Two spots up for grabs at the top and just two matches remaining. It is sure that all the three teams will put their blood and sweat into their last match in order to claim the top spot. While PBKS, MI and RCB have their faith in their own hands, GT on the other hand would be hoping and praying for the Rajat Patidar led- team to lose their match. The last couple of days of the league stage of IPL 2025 are all set for some riveting contests and clashes with the teams hoping to bring out their absolute best and hence carrying a significant advantage along with some momentum into the Playoffs. Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator will be played in Mullanpur on the 29th and 30th May, respectively whereas the Qualifer 2 and the Final will be hosted by Ahmedabad on the 1st and 3rd June, respectively.
